Ayurveda is currently not regulated as a standalone complimentary health care modality, either by the Canadian Government or locally by province. Please check with your local AAC Chapter for specific details as legalities may vary from one province to another.

There are a number of both online and in-person programs varying by geographic region. AAC currently does not endorse or officiate any particular college or institution. We encourage prospective students to perform due diligence and investigative work to determine whether or not a program meets their requirements. Online education is available as well, although Ayurveda is a hands-on modality, and we encourage students to study in person as much as possible.

While one of AAC’s long-term organizational mandates is to establish clear guidelines for AAC-approved educational standards, our current requirement for professional membership is a minimum of 500 educational hours in a certified program or institution. Once AAC approved educational guidelines are established in a future date, AAC will follow an approval process, certifying the educational institutions.

In Canada, Ayurvedic professionals are pioneers and generally must create their own careers and businesses. Ayurveda is in its very early stages of development therefore there is no information available on the average income.

In Canada, Ayurvedic professionals may choose to orient their careers towards educating the general public and training other health professionals often complementing their careers with health-related professions. Licensed health practitioners such as medical doctors and nurses may choose to incorporate their Ayurvedic studies into their profession.

In Canada, to be recognized as an Ayurvedic Practitioner by the AAC, a minimum of 500 hours is required with a reputable school. To become a certified AAC professional member one must meet high levels of educational & ethical standards.
